In the Vietnam War, Sergeant Mars speaks to helicopters. Captain Daddy thinks himself a soldier when he is just a village parson. I read this book a long time ago. I was a PFC in the 82nd. I passed it around to my buddies as I criss crossed the Army. As usual, I lost it. But the beginning, when Mars hears the screaming of the downed Chopper, always stuck with me. I came to that full understanding in Baghdad. There is a different resonance to an explosion when it takes a life. Maybe there is a sub sonic under current of man screams as they die that mixes with the screech of mettle and the boom of the explosion.Either way it has always stuck with me. I know when the boom is OK and when it echos the death and destruction of a fellow Soldier.

Believable and hard to put down.
hate the ending lol sucks
Based on personal experience it had no place in reality. I could not finish it!
